Keyword Density
Keyword density is important because search engines use this information to categorize a site's theme, and to determine which terms the site is relevant to. The perfect keyword density will help achieve higher search engine positions. Keyword density needs to be balanced correctly (too low and you will not get the optimum benefit, too high and your page might get flagged for “keyword spamming”).

Many SEO experts consider the optimum keyword density to be 1 to 3 percent. Using a keyword more than that could be considered search spam. The formula to calculate your keyword density on a web page for SEO purposes is (Nkr / Tkn) * 100, where Nkr is how many times you repeated a specific keyword and Tkn the total words in the analyzed text. This will result in a keyword density value. When calculating keyword density, be sure to ignore html tags and other embedded tags which will not actually appear in the text of the page once it is published. When calculating the density of a keyword phrase, the formula would be (Nkr * Nwp / Tkn) * 100, where Nwp is the number of words in the phrase. So, for example, for a page about search engine optimization where that phrase is used four times and there are four hundred words on the page, the keyword phrase density is (4*3/400)*100 or 3 percent.

What is Keyword Density?
One of the simplest ways to improve your site's placement in the search engine results is to work on the keyword density on your page, which was what I did. For my purpose here, I will refer to a "keyword" as a word that the user searches for when using the search engine. Generally speaking, keyword density is the ratio of the word that is being searched for (the keyword) against the total number of words appearing on your web page. If your keyword occurs only (say) once in a page of one thousand words, it has a lower keyword density than a keyword that occurs (say) four times in a page of similar length.

If a particular keyword has a higher density on your web page, then the likelihood of your page obtaining a better search engine ranking increases. Note that not all search engines bother with keyword density and indeed even those that do have their own algorithm for computing the density of a keyword. However, the principles described in this article is general enough to help your page improve its ranking in the engines that take keyword density into account.

Free Keyword Density Analyzer
The level of "keyword phrase" and "search term" usage on your web pages is an important part of your search engine ranking success. As search engines crawl your web pages, they use your page copy as an indicator of your website's theme and will determine it's relevance to searches accordingly. That's why it's important to get your keyword density right. Your keyword density represents the number of times a particular search term or keyword phrase is used relative to the total copy on your web page. Using the FREE Keyword Density Analyzer is simple. Just type in the URL (web address) of your web page in the field provided and click “Analyze”. Your results will be displayed across 3 tabs. On each tab, you will get the top 1, 2 or 3 word keyword phrases on your web page based on their keyword density.
How to Use the Keyword Density Analyzer
Once entering a URL into the field for analysis, the Keyword Density Analyzer will return a density cloud (literally, try it!) of that pages most prominant content. The result is an SEO Tool of priceless value.

The Keyword Density is an important factor that determines the search engine rankings of your website in regards to a specific keyword. Your keyword density should not be too low or too high. If it is too low, the search engines will not consider your website as relevant for that specific keyword. If it is too high, your website might be penalized by the search engines for "keyword stuffing". There is a wide discussion among the webmasters and search engine optimization specialists on what is the recommended density for a keyword or phrase so that it really benefits your Search Engine Rankings. There is no definitive answer, however we would recommend a good range of no lower than 3% and no higher than 7%.

With the Keyword Density Analyzer tool you can :
Check the density of Keywords, 2 Word Phrases and 3 Word Phrases within the text content of your html webpages. The tool will show the number of times a given keyword is found within the content of your webpage along with the respective precentage.
  • Change the Search Filter by specifying which words should be omitted by the report.
  • Browse your website's html pages starting from the homepage.
